This is the infamous "Marijuana" sketch from the early 80s comedy program, FRIDAYS, in which Andy Kaufman appeared to get into an on-air brawl with the cast and crew, including Michael Richards.

Andy Kaufman was a genius, what you percieved as arogance was Andy Just having fun; somewhat like what Silent Jay was saying. Read Bob Zmuda's Book.

i think that Andy Kaufman was a smart guy - he understood that comedy or "entertainment" are not all about sticking to the book and going by the rules . I think he wanted television viewers to experience something real . In a sense he was ahead of his time - i think he understood that most often than not reality can be the best entertainment of all.

Awww, I miss Andy. I searched for years for the lost “Bananas” episode in which he gets in a fight with Bob Zmuda on air in front of children. (supposedly what inspired the Jerry Springer show if you believe Bob Zmuda’s book) Who knows if it still exists.

It’s funny to think of all the people that worked on the show or even more the performers who worked their years and thought this show would be their chance to stop waiting tables and Andy decides to trash it to get attention now that he’s been kicked off SNL.
